Dear Reader,
It has been six months since I began this Substack, and I realised, reading other people’s posts that they share more about themselves than I do, and within the bounds of not oversharing too much, here’s a little bit about me.
These are not my shortcomings or peculiarities, these are just lighthearted facts. We can get into the other stuff another time. But for now…
I have a Naina

I highly recommend having a Naina. She is a good girl (she is my good girl). She’s 10, and was my first big purchase, I tell her often that she’s the best thing I ever bought home. She gets many kisses and cuddles, she lives with two retired people and someone who works mostly from home. She is spoilt, bilingual and is a little too much like me. Her name means pretty eyes, and it’s very fitting. She’s going grey now, but hasn’t slowed down one bit. She’s the one being in the world I love more than any other. She’s also (obviously) a good girl.
I make silly Christmas cards

There isn’t enough fun in the world, so in 2023 I decided to make Christmas cards out of silly photos of myself. I edit them to look even sillier and send them to friends either physically or online. My friends love it, and I like making them laugh. Some even collect them on their fridges. Here they are for you to enjoy. I hope 2025 will be equally as silly.
I have a library
I was lucky growing up to have parents who dropped me off at the library when they were busy, I grew up into a person with her nose in a book, and people noticed. They started bringing me books without reason. They knew I’d want it, and I did. Now, there’s almost 300 books and a definite lack of space. I need to stop buying more, but…everyone needs a vice right?
I do martial arts….and ballet.

When I was 15 I persuaded my parents to let me do martial arts (after trying tennis, volleyball, netball and horse riding). When I was 20 I was such a tomboy I picked up ballet for a little balance. Am I good at them? No. Does it stop me…also no.
Am I constantly sore and often bruised? Yes. Very much so.
My friends turn me into memes and illustrations

I have friends with too much time on their hands, so my work as an actor and my photos just get turned into illustrations. Please, have a laugh on me.
I am artsy fartsy in a not-annoying way

If there’s an art gallery nearby, I’m likely to walk in. If the Australian Ballet has a show on, and I can spare the money, I’ll be there. The non-annoying bit comes from me not making this my whole personality. I like these things, so I take myself and occasionally some friends. I am quite proud of introducing many of my friends to the ballet and dragging them to the gallery exhibits around town.
Occasionally I’m an actor
Since I was five years old I did school plays, which then turned into high school improv classes and a degree, then before you know it I had a tiny agent, a scummy agent…a great agent…meetings in LA. I’ve done TV, short films and although I don’t get consistent work, I do enjoy it. (Please hire me).
I take too many photos of my food

This photo my friend took of me is fitting. My camera roll is mostly food. I know it’s a millennial cliche, but I don’t delete them, because what if I forget what I had last time I was there and order the same thing again? What if I forget I ate it altogether? I have a terrible memory…I need to clean my camera roll.
I think that’s enough for this edition of ‘learn a few things about me’. This is just for fun, so you can get to know me a little better. I have a habit of compartmentalising my life and as time goes on I think it’s better for me to let things bleed into one another. Substack readers can know I do martial arts and martial arts friends can know I write Substacks. It’s healthier this way.
Tell me a bit about yourselves if you’d like. I’ll be happy to learn more about you too!
Cheers,
Rubi.x
Whoaaa, the number of things you do makes it seem like you live multiple lives XD I'd love to read any crazy stories from your life that you would like to share <3
Hi, nice getting to know you :) I love that you make silly Christmas cards. You just scored cool points! Hope you post this year’s to Substack so we all can see and enjoy!
